Fleet and District U3A was formed in 1994 by a small group of interested people. We are an educational self-help organisation providing study groups, recreational and social activities at minimal cost. The intention is that there should be a sharing in learning and a valuing of older people’s skills and experience.

Over the years our membership has increased steadily to well over 1600 active members. We are part of the Third Age Trust which represents local U3As throughout the UK. In 2013 there were 915 U3As in the UK with a total membership of 320,500.

No qualifications are required to join and no qualifications are given. Anyone who is semi-retired or retired can join. We believe that everyone has something to contribute and all of our Group Leaders are volunteers with an interest in a particular topic that they would like to share with others.

We usually meet in the daytime using local venues in and around Fleet. There is a small basic charge for each study group but a higher charge may apply if external tutors or speakers are used. The atmosphere is informal and friendly. We break at Christmas, Easter and for the summer holidays. Our Monthly Meeting, where we are entertained by a guest speaker, is held at the Harlington Centre, Fleet, on the third Wednesday of each month.
