RUNNING

HART ROAD RUNNERS

Hart Road Runners was started over 16 years ago by a small group of sporting enthusiasts who wished to
train together for the then new Fleet Half Marathon. In those days the Club was known as the Fleet Run for
Fun Club.
The club went from strength to strength, with the name changing to Hart Road Runners, but with the
emphasis still on fun. In fact, Hart Road Runners still has some of those founder members running today.
Hart Road Runners now boasts a membership of some 100 runners of all ages and abilities.

CLUB EVENINGS
The Club meets at the Hart Leisure Centre in Hitchens Lane, Fleet, on Thursdays at 7pm, Tuesdays at
7.30pm, and on Sunday Mornings.
Thursday is the most popular evening and many people take the opportunity to go to the Leisure Centre Bar
afterwards - a good chance to meet up with and get to know other runners.

CLUB RUNS
The routes on a Thursday night vary between 6 and 10 miles with all standards catered for. Groups of
runners of the same standard try to stick together to make both sociable and encouraging. Winter running is
on the road and in the summer we run on track and trails wherever possible.
Tuesday evening are usually coached for so that the faster runners are sufficiently stretched and the slower
ones are not left behind.
Sunday morning are either taken up races or else small groups meet together for an agreed run.

RUNNING STANDARD
In order to run 6 miles on a Thursday night, we would encourage you to be able to run 4-5 miles before you
join the club. Your speed does not matter.
If you are a real beginner, you will do better to join our stepping stones group which meets informally to get
you started and to put new runners in touch with each other.

RACES
Members of Hart Road Runners compete at all levels and all the distances. As well as the Fleet Half
Marathon in March, Club members regularly compete in the London Marathon in April, the Hook 10 mile
Run in May and the Yateley 10K series in the summer. Through the winter months we also compete in a
cross-country league.
There are many other events which are popular with Club members, such as marathons abroad, the Great
North Run and the newly inaugurated Edinburgh Marathon.
For several years, a growing band of intrepid Hart Road Runners has competed in the Tough Guy - a wet,
cold and physically challenging event at the end of January.

SOCIAL
We try to vary our social outings but, inevitably, there are old favourites which crop up every year. Running
events often spill over into social events and one such is the picnic and rounders which follow the July
handicap event. We also arrange trips to the theatre and rock concerts, skittles evenings and discos, as the
fancy takes us.

Details of all events are published in Hart Road Runners newsletter, “Runtastic”, which keeps you in touch
with what's going on.

We know you will enjoy running with Hart Road Runners and we would like to take this opportunity of
wishing you every success.
