NEW HART LEISURE CENTRE POOL OPENING TIME's
The Hart Swimming Club has been active for nearly forty years. It was started by Leslie and Hilary Wigg in the mid 1960’s and was initially known as the Fleet Swimming School. When the District changed its name to Hart, so did the Club. Since 1990 the Club has been based at Hart Leisure Centre, Hitches Lane in Fleet. The Club is affiliated to Hampshire County Amateur Swimming Association and, combined with two other clubs in the district, makes up Hampshire North Swim Squad. Aim of the Club The Club aims to develop safe and competitive swimmers in order to improve the standard at which the Club can compete. Membership The Club provides training facilities to a broad age group. At present the membership spans the ages of 7 to 70+ years. Swimmers are required to be reasonably competent before joining the Club as even the youngest swimmer is likely to swim in excess of 1,000m in the training sessions. Members progress through levels of training according to their capability, steadily increasing the number of training sessions attended and the distance covered in those sessions. The Club has a thriving Masters section, catering for competent swimmers over 25. Training Training sessions take place primarily at Hart Leisure Centre in Fleet, but some sessions also run at Aldershot Garrison Pool and Camberley Arena. In general the sessions take place at one of the venues most evenings and last for one to one and a half hours. For the more advanced swimmers land training is also available. The purpose of the training sessions is to improve stroke technique and the endurance of the swimmer. Training programs are designed with these objectives in mind, while still providing variety to the time spent in the pool. CompetitionsThe Club competes in the National Speedo
Swimming League South – Division 1 West and also local leagues such as the
Hants & South Coast Swimming Leagues and the Rother League. Most of the
swimmers progress to representing the Club at these galas. Swimmers are also
encouraged to enter Open Meets of all standards where they have the opportunity
of individual achievement at County, District and National levels. The Masters Squad actively compete in a
wide range of competitions across the country. The Club holds several internal Gala
evenings, providing all swimmers with the opportunity to compete. Cups, medals
and rosettes are awarded to successful competitors. How
