Fleet-based Pabulum Catering and Surrey based pub group Red Mist Leisure have joined forces to raise money for two local causes by running the forthcoming Fleet half marathon with a team of almost 40 people.

The team is made up of 18 people from Pabulum and its sister companies and 20 people from Red Mist Leisure, which comprises six local pubs including The Exchequer in Crookham Village. The team are all currently in-training to take on the 13 mile run and raise funds for two local causes; Red Balloon Learner Centre Reading and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

Pabulum Catering, who provide school meals to local schools and colleges within 125 miles of Fleet have long been supporters of Red Balloon Reading, a charity which provide an 'intensive care' full-time education for children who are unable to go to school because they have been severely bullied, suffered a trauma or abuse. Pabulum’s Chairman Deborah Harvey is a trustee of the charity and commented:

“Doing our best for students is at the heart of what we do at Pabulum, we believe students deserve the highest quality food to give them the right energy to concentrate and get the most out of lessons. The education and wellbeing of school children is very important to us, so working with Red Balloon is something we are very passionate about. It’s a fantastic charity, making a real difference to children’s lives and we’re proud to be supporting them.”

The team’s second local cause is Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, the only adult Hospice caring for terminally ill people and their families across West Surrey and North East Hampshire. Mark Robson, Red Mist Leisure’s founder and Managing Director has commented:

“Phyllis Tuckwell is a really important charity that does great local work, so raising money for this worthy cause has kept us motivated throughout the training for the half marathon. We’ve got staff from Phyllis Tuckwell joining our team too, showing once again how dedicated they are as a charity to helping terminally ill people and their families, whether it’s physically caring for them, or raising much needed money!”

The half marathon which takes place on 22nd March will see the team hoping to raise over £5k in total, to be donated to the two chosen local causes. Pabulum Catering will also be supporting the marathon event on behalf of both companies with drinks and support stations set up around the course. While Red Mist Leisure is placing donation boxes for the chosen charities in each of the group’s five local pubs, along with literature to raise awareness on the charity.
