About Your MP.

James is married to Emma, a criminal law barrister.  They have four children: Alexander (b 1986), Katherine (1989), Eleanor (1992) and Alice (1998) and they live in the centre of the constituency at Lower Froyle.

James is a Privy Councillor and was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Trade in November 2003. From 1997 until 2001, he was the Opposition Chief Whip.  From 2001 until the election of the new Party Leader in November 2003, he served on two important defence-related groups: the influential Intelligence and Security Committee and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
